Sometimes I get super obsessed with a particular food and eat it as often as possible for days (or weeks!) About a month ago I couldn’t get enough matzo ball soup — I had it for lunches and dinners whenever I could and was so sad to see it disappear from soup selections once the holidays ended (although Jack’s Wife Freda has it permanently!) These days, I’m way into my version of CPK’s Barbeque Chicken Salad (hold the chicken… for now). I usually use a combination of baby arugula and baby kale (because I love babies), then add tomatoes, black beans, corn, sharp cheddar, and crumbled tortilla chips, plus an avocado if I have one handy. Then, instead of salad dressing, I just use barbeque sauce…lots of it. Is that a little strange? Maybe. But if using barbeque sauce as salad dressing is strange, then, baby, I don’t want to be normal.
Sometimes people hate on New Year’s Resolutions, but I’m pretty into them… even if I don’t keep them. One of mine is to blog more often, and seeing as my first entry of the New Year is on the 7th, I’ve got some work to do. I’d also like to stop biting my nails (for the 10th year in a row), and try really hard to become a person who goes to the gym in the morning (I went this morning! But if it doesn’t work out and I am just NOT that person, I’ll be okay with it.) Along with the above, I have a bunch of others that fall into one of three categories below inspired by other bloggers.
1. Supal of Chevrons & Eclairs chose three words to guide her through 2012. I like the idea of having three words to guide you through the next year. Mine are: balance, strength, and exploration.
2. Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere made a list of little day-to-day resolutions, here’s mine:
Read more (hello, bookclub!). Have people over for brunch. Find time for a little sunlight every day. Tackle a few DIY art projects that have been on my mind. Try some new cocktails. Take advantage of this wonderful city more often and find a way to give back. Play more cards. Write more notes. Try out yoga again (because it’s the only thing that ever helped my back). Keep my drawers and closets organized. Make my NetFlix membership worthwhile. Oh and blog more, stop biting my nails, and see if I am, in fact, a morning gym person ; )
3. And finally, Mackenzie of Design Darling has a list of 101 Things to Accomplish in 1001 Days that I love. I’ve been working on my own (and even crossed two things off in December!) Although these aren’t exactly New Year’s Resolutions, I’d like to resolve to finish my list by February 1st and get going! More to come.
